Now that the Spring term has ended, any user who is at their home/home base and not traveling may consider upgrading to iOS 10.3.2 if they choose. Please note, iOS 10.3.2 is not perfect but it IS the only version of iOS that secure.
Who should think about upgrading to iOS 10.3.2?
1) Anyone who cares about security of the data on their iPhone. If you don’t do anything important on your iPhone this may not matter and so staying in iOS 9 may be better.
2) Anyone with a newer iPhone who would like to take advantage of the new iOS 10 features.
Who may not want to upgrade to iOS 10.3.2?
1) Anyone with an older iPhone. iPhone 4S and iPad 3rd Gen and lower cannot be upgraded. My own iPhone 5s experienced decreased signal strength and lost connectivity in most of the MIT tunnels that I had with iOS 9. No battery issues to speak of. Performance was noticeably not as good as iOS 9.
2) If your needs are simple and you don’t store anything confidential on your device, you could probably stay comfortably in iOS 9 and enjoy the better performance and better reception. Just keep in mind, any iOS device not running iOS 10 is susceptible to hacks that were revealed in NSA hacks and tools data dumps earlier this year from the Shadow Brokers.
3) Never upgrade if you’re traveling and are relying on the iOS device. Upgrade after you get home so you can seek assistance if something goes south. Remember to backup your iOS device first on your computer in iTunes before you do any upgrade.
As always, do the research and see how iOS is behaving on other devices of your type and read what people are saying. Determine if there are users complaining about specific issues before deciding to upgrade. And finally, if at all possible, make a backup of your iPhone on your computer in iTunes before you upgrade to the new iOS version.
