We are reiterating to all folks in the SHASS sections we support:
Until further notice, all older MISSION CRITICAL iOS devices and computers you use to do your work currently running iOS 7 or less or Mac OS 10.9 or less should NOT be upgraded to iOS 8 or Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite.
For some new machines to be used by administrative staff in critical roles we have begun downgrading the OS on the machines upon receipt from Apple from Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite back down to Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks in order to insure compatibility with existing critical software.
A serious security flaw was uncovered in 10.10 Yosemite and isn’t expected to be patched until January 2015.

iOS 8 continues to be hugely problematic (read as slow, buggy, turning off on its own, basic functionality not working correctly) for many users and there is no sign of another patch to fix these problems for older iOS devices is in sight. For those individuals with NON-CRITICAL personal devices who want to be adventurous to take the chance and upgrade, Gizmodo has published a list of the worst iOS 8 bugs and how to fix them.

There is NO guarantee that these fixes will work if the upgrade to iOS 8 goes south. There is confirmation that these fixes do work in some cases but not all. Finally be aware if you take the chance and upgrade to iOS 8, Apple has made it so you CANNOT go back to iOS 7.
We will let you know when the bulk of these issues with iOS 8 and Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite have been worked out and it is safe to upgrade. If you don’t hear from us, assume the issues have not been fixed and you should continue with the older iOS 7 or Mac OS 10.9 or less.
Computer World has also published a troubleshooting guide for iOS 8 which may help if none of the Gizmodo fixes work for you.
