AT&T Data Breach confirmed

On March 20th, 2024, we notified the SHASS Community of a potential data breach involving AT&T.

This past weekend, AT&T has confirmed that the personal information of more than 70 million current and former customers was leaked onto the dark web. Though they are still trying to determine the source of the leak, they have been able to confirm that social security numbers, full names, email and mailing addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth, as well as AT&T account numbers and passcodes were exposed.

WHAT TO DO

If you were a former or current AT&T customer, you will need to change your passwords immediately. Any accounts you hold that may be using a password you used with AT&T MUST be changed as soon as possible.

The most secure passwords are those that are long, but easy to remember. For example: WinniethepoohandTigger2!

Because social security numbers were exposed, former and current customers are encouraged to begin monitoring their credit through a credit monitoring agency like Equifax, TransUnion, or Experian. If you already have credit monitoring active from the Blue Cross Blue Shield breach, or you currently subscribe to a credit monitoring agency, then you’re all set on the credit monitoring front.
