Apple publishes list of Obsolete and Vintage iOS devices

Obsolete iOS devices will no longer receive iOS updates or support from Apple for repairs. Any of these devices that are still operating will no longer be secure and if targeted by bad actors and unpatched security holes hacked, all of the information stored on them will most likely be compromised.

What this means: Users should stop moving money, paying bills, or banking on these devices and relying on them for any critical work functions.

Vintage iOS devices are still partially supported and still receive iOS updates to patch security holes. They can still be repaired for now but parts are becoming difficult to source.

What this means: These devices may still be used for critical work functions for now but may need to be replaced in a year or two. Should one of these devices fail, users may want to consider getting it replaced with a new device rather than attempting to fix it.
