The SHASS IT Support Model

As the new Fall Semester begins we would like to remind all of our wonderful Tech Liaisons, staff, and faculty that we are just 2 people and to please read/skim the details of our support model to become re-aquainted with our support process and what we do and do not support due to limited resources.

Two things in particular I would like to highlight are:

1)  During the Academic school year, folks must make ALL REQUESTS FOR IN PERSON APPOINTMENTS through their section’s Tech Liaison. Please do not email us directly or come knocking on our door hoping to make an appointment. We have specific processes in place to minimize miscommunications and scheduling mistakes while maximizing assistance availability.

During regular section support times the section’s Tech Liaisons sets the schedule and tells us who to see first and in what order. Anyone who is not on your Tech Liaison’s list for that day, will not be seen.

Here are the Tech Liaisons for the academic sections we support:

Anthropology- Irene
GCWS- Stacey
GSL- Jo
History- Kathleen
Literature- Emmie
MTA- Claudia
PSTS- Gus
WGS- Emily/Sophia

2) We are not movers. We are not insured or remotely professional movers. If you are moving to a new office on campus, your hired movers must be instructed to move the computer equipment as well. They have the moving blankets, bubble wrap, and specialized equipment to do so safely and are also insured and bonded in case they break anything. On the same vein, we are not permitted to transport your computer to or from IS&T at ATLAS in E17 for repair.  Be aware that IS&T will likely ask questions only the user can answer and you are the only person with the passwords. To maintain our trust relationship we are not allowed to know your passwords.

We will of course help folks set up their computers again once it’s back in the office. Also, before anyone surrenders their computer to IS&T, make sure that a final backup of the files is completed.

Please let us know if anyone has any questions or concerns!
